What's included in a crane service

A proper crane service is more than a quick look-over. Every RKA visit covers the full system that keeps your crane safe and productive — and ends with a digital compliance report you can hand straight to SafeWork NSW, your insurer or your own management.

Structural components

Bridge, runway, end carriages, welds, mounts and supports — checked for wear, cracking and fatigue.

Mechanical systems

Hoists, gears, ropes, chains, sheaves, brakes and hooks, with wear measured against manufacturer tolerances.

Electrical & controls

Panels, wiring, pendant and remote controls, safety interlocks, isolators and limit switches.

Runway & alignment

Ensuring smooth travel and safe operation across the full span.

Safety devices

Overload protection, emergency stops and indicators — verified under a full operating cycle.

Lubrication & adjustment

Keeping every moving part within specification between visits.

How often should your crane be serviced?

Under AS 2550 and the NSW Work Health and Safety Regulation, an annual inspection is the minimum baseline for any crane in service. But the standard is clear that frequency should match your crane’s duty cycle and the manufacturer’s recommendations — and for most industrial cranes in regular production use, that means quarterly servicing.

That’s why most RKA clients are on a scheduled quarterly plan: it catches wear early, prevents unplanned downtime, and keeps you comfortably ahead of compliance rather than scrambling before an audit. If you’re not sure where your crane sits, we’ll assess its duty rating and give you a straight answer — not an upsell.

Monthly crane service plans — an Australian first

Most crane companies bill you job by job: a service here, a repair there, an inspection somewhere in between. RKA does it differently. Our customised monthly service plans bundle everything your cranes need — preventative maintenance, AS 2550.1 inspections, digital reports, repair plans, VOC training, even lifting gear restocking — into one predictable monthly amount that fits your budget.

“We used to chase faults every month. Now we plan ahead.”

Makes maintaining and inspecting lifting equipment a legal obligation, not an option.

Skipping scheduled servicing doesn’t just risk breakdowns. It can void your insurance, expose you in a SafeWork NSW audit, and leave you liable after an incident. We keep your schedule and records current so you’re always audit-ready.

Frequently asked questions

Q: How much does crane servicing cost in Sydney?

It depends on the crane’s type, capacity and duty cycle. A single service on a standard overhead crane is a modest, predictable cost — and our monthly plans spread servicing, inspections and repairs into one budget-friendly amount. Request crane support online or call us and we’ll give you a fast, no-obligation estimate.

Yes — if your crane is down, we offer emergency breakdown callouts across Sydney. Call 0483 985 169 or request crane support online and we’ll prioritise getting a technician to your site and your crane back lifting.

Yes. Under the NSW Work Health and Safety Regulation 2017 and AS 2550, any business operating lifting equipment must maintain and inspect it so it remains safe to use. An annual inspection is the minimum; most working cranes need servicing more often.

Most routine services are completed in a few hours per crane, and we schedule around your production windows to minimise disruption. Complex or multi-crane sites may take longer — we’ll give you a clear timeframe when we book.

Yes. We service and repair all makes and models of overhead, bridge, gantry, jib and monorail cranes, plus hoists and lifting equipment — and because we’re independent, our advice is unbiased.

A digital compliance report with clear findings, wear measurements logged against manufacturer tolerances, and prioritised recommendations — suitable for SafeWork NSW, insurers and internal records.

We’ll explain exactly what failed and why, tag anything unsafe, and give you a prioritised repair plan with pricing — often fixable on the spot or within your monthly plan, so you’re back lifting sooner.
