Suprima Bakeries faced a unique challenge with their six automated cranes operating within a freezer environment, crucial for dough production for Subway. These cranes, integral to their operations, were deemed to have reached their end-of-life after 25 years, based on PLC data, raising significant compliance and efficiency concerns.

Upon thorough analysis, RKA Industrial Solutions discovered that despite the age, the cranes had only completed 50% of their expected lifecycle in terms of operational cycles. We proposed a series of repairs and upgrades to bring the cranes up to current compliance standards, enhancing reliability without the need for complete replacement. Our approach included detailed data analysis from the PLC, identifying areas for improvement and extending the lifecycle of the equipment.

Our intervention extended the cranes’ operational life by an additional 10 years, with a plan for annual monitoring to ensure continued compliance and efficiency. This solution presented Suprima Bakeries with significant cost savings, avoiding the $1.5 million expense of new cranes and the potential $10 million cost associated with constructing a new building to accommodate them, ultimately saving over $10 million while ensuring operational continuity in a critical production area.
